Safety guidance on electricals in halls

We frequently get asked about the electrical items provided in halls and what items can and cannot be brought from home.

We make sure our accommodations are kitted out with all the essentials and that these essentials are properly tested so they meet the latest safety standards. For any other items you might bring, we have some guidance and rules to keep you safe.

Bringing electrical items to halls

We have strict rules on what electrical items you cannot bring with you to halls in order to keep you safe.

  • Iron
  • Kettle
  • Toaster
  • Deep-fat fryer
  • Microwave oven
  • Fridge
  • Freezer
  • Washing machine
  • Tumble dryer
  • Dishwasher
  • Gas appliance
  • Space heater
  • Paraffin heater or oil heater
  • Portable fan heater
  • Electric fire
  • Electric blanket
  • 13-amp socket adapter plugs
  • Barbecue
  • Lighting (except free-standing desk lamps and LED fairy lights)

Please don't bring any kitchen electricals with you. We recommend waiting to see what you need, this keeps work spaces clear. You might decide to purchase additional items with your new household – no kitchen needs 10 air fryers.

You can bring other electrical items, such as hair dryers, computers, speakers etc.

But remember that all electricals must conform to the appropriate British Standard and has to be purchased inside the European Union, and requires the CE mark.

If any non-compliant items are found they will be confiscated.
